ASCII MEDIA WORKS was founded on April 1, 2008—yes, April Fool’s Day, but this was no joke. The company was born from the merger of the already popular publisher “MediaWorks” and the IT pioneer “ASCII.”
It was a cutting-edge brand at the intersection of gaming magazines, IT culture, anime, and light novels.
You can't talk about ASCII MEDIA WORKS without mentioning its many “Dengeki”-branded media. From Dengeki Bunko came titles like “A Certain Magical Index”, “Sword Art Online”, and “Accel World”—works that are still loved and adapted into anime today.
Magazines like “Dengeki PlayStation” and “Dengeki G's Magazine” were like bibles for gamers and anime fans alike.
