【Spike】 A Game Company from the Past! Reflecting on the History of Spike, Now Merged into Spike Chunsoft!
Spike was founded in 1989 as Mizuki Co., Ltd. and reorganized into Mizuki Corporation in 1991. Initially, it developed software for personal computers, but in 1997, it was renamed Spike Corporation and entered the home console market, particularly focusing on developing games for the Sega Saturn.
In the 2000s, Spike released many popular titles, including 'Way of the Samurai', 'Kenka Bancho', and 'Danganronpa', which are beloved by many gamers. Additionally, Spike acquired and continued selling games from Human, a company that went bankrupt in 1999, including 'Chase the Express' and 'Twilight Syndrome', thus strengthening its presence.
In 2002, Spike became a wholly-owned subsidiary of GEO, and in 2005, it was renamed Spikey Corporation. In the same year, the game development division was re-established as Spike Corporation, which later became a subsidiary of Dwango. Through these structural changes, Spike continued to grow.
In 2012, the new Spike merged with Chunsoft, forming Spike Chunsoft. Meanwhile, Spikey (the former Spike) was absorbed by GEO in 2010, ending its history.
Spike also sold movie DVDs and VHS tapes, expanding its reach into various media. Notably, the 'FIRE PRO WRESTLING' series and 'Samurai' series were known as Spike's flagship titles. Spike inherited the rights to Human's games, with 'Twilight Syndrome' being adapted into a live-action video.
In the 2000s, Spike released a wide range of game software, including RPGs, brain training games, and character games for younger audiences. This diversity is a major attraction of Spike.
Spike's history is a story of continuous change and challenge. This attitude is one of the reasons why it is supported by many gamers. We look forward to further achievements from Spike Chunsoft.
