【MILESTONE】Released hit diet and hula dance simulation games for Nintendo DS and Wii! The history of the former company MILESTONE!

Many companies have created legendary titles in the gaming industry, but “MILESTONE” followed a unique path. Based in Hamamatsucho, Tokyo, this game company left its own mark on the industry, attracting attention for the backgrounds of its founder and staff.
One of MILESTONE’s defining traits is that its founder, Takashi Kimura, previously worked at Compile, the legendary Japanese game company known for the “Puyo Puyo” series. After gaining experience in Compile's sales department, Kimura went on to establish MILESTONE. The development team also included former Compile staff, reuniting with old colleagues to create new games.
Initially, MILESTONE mainly engaged in subcontracting work for other companies, but from 2004 onwards, they began focusing on developing original titles. Leveraging the technical skills gained from subcontracting, they started releasing works that reflected their own vision. This allowed them to gradually build a dedicated fan base, and the name MILESTONE began to resonate within the gaming industry.
In 2008, MILESTONE expanded not only in the gaming industry but also into the bioethanol business. They even established a related company, MS Bio Energy Co., Ltd., to pursue this venture. It was quite unique for a game company to venture into the energy sector, sparking interest among industry insiders and fans alike.
After 2012, MILESTONE faced various challenges. Staff departures, the disappearance of their official website, and the arrest of their representative led to a de facto halt in operations. While many fans were saddened by this, some of their works were carried on by other companies.
Former MILESTONE staff later resumed activities at “Klon Co., Ltd.,” continuing the development of some MILESTONE titles. Additionally, the company “RS34” took on the role of developing and publishing shooting games. Thus, the spirit of MILESTONE lives on, carried forward in a new form.
Despite its short lifespan, MILESTONE was a company with a unique personality and a spirit of challenge. Former Compile staff gathered to tackle not only game development but also ventures in the energy sector. Their works are still carried on by other companies, and their presence in the gaming industry will continue to be remembered.
