The gaming industry has constantly evolved and transformed over time. Among its many players was a company that, despite a brief existence, left a lasting impression - “Magifact Co., Ltd.” In the early 1990s, when home gaming was still evolving, they created memorable titles with a unique perspective.
Magifact’s 1993 release, “Bishin Densetsu Zoku,” was an ambitious work that combined racing and fighting genres. Mixing such different genres was rare at the time, creating a lot of buzz. Released exclusively for the Super Famicom, it allowed players to enjoy intense battles within fast-paced racing. This title symbolized Magifact’s “originality” and “spirit of adventure.”
Next came 1995’s “Yogi Bear,” based on the Hanna-Barbera cartoon. This game was a port of an overseas title, appealing to both anime fans and gamers alike. It showcased the influence of foreign works in the Japanese gaming market and demonstrated Magifact’s flexibility in adopting different content.
Magifact also ventured into diverse genres, as shown by their 1995 Game Boy title “Pachislot Hisshou Guide GB.” Created in collaboration with the pachislot magazine “Pachislot Hisshou Guide,” this unique game simulated real pachislot machines, catering to a niche audience.
Magifact’s final release in 1995 was “Gangan Gan-chan,” another Super Famicom title. This game was loved by action game fans for its fast-paced action and exhilarating gameplay, showing that even during its brief tenure, Magifact pursued high quality in its titles.
From 1993 to 1995, Magifact released four games in just two years. Though their time in the industry was short, each of their games presented unique ideas and distinctive gameplay experiences. Their approach of blending different genres and tackling niche themes like pachislot reflected a strong personality not seen in other game companies.
Despite their short lifespan, Magifact’s impact is still remembered today. For retro game fans, their works are treasures.
