Some of you may have heard the name Meldac. This company was once a Japanese record label and now continues its legacy as a music label under Tokuma Japan Communications.
Meldac was founded in 1985 with investments from Mitsubishi Electric and the music group “Dark Ducks,” marking its entry into the music industry.
From the late 1980s to the early 1990s, it housed many famous artists such as THE BLUE HEARTS and J-WALK, producing numerous hit songs.
During this period, Meldac was a prominent presence in the Japanese music scene.
Not only that, but artists like THE Torayasu and Mari Kunitake also achieved success with Meldac's support.
However, Meldac's appeal wasn't limited to the music industry.
In 1990, they ventured into the video game industry with the Game Boy title 'Heiankyo Alien', stepping into a new field.
Following this, they released titles like the 'Tenjin Kaisen' series and 'Abarenbou Tengu', gaining attention from gamers with their unique game lineup.
Meldac's entry into the gaming industry was a new challenge at the time, but their creative power and flexible thinking, much like in music, were put to good use in the gaming field as well.
In 2001, Meldac was dissolved when it was absorbed by TryeM Inc., but its name continues to live on in the music industry.
In 2005, the planning, production, and sales division of the Meldac label were transferred to Tokuma Japan Communications, where the label still continues its music activities today.
Meldac may have once seemed to disappear, but its name still lives on today as a label under Tokuma Japan Communications.
With numerous hit songs in the music industry and an unexpected challenge in the gaming world, Meldac left a creative mark in various fields.
The history of this company, which supported both music and gaming culture in Japan, should continue to be told even today.
