The game maker “Use” once existed. Today, many may know it by its current name, “Xuse.” Use evolved from general audience games to adult-oriented content, establishing a unique position in the industry. This time, let's dive into its history and appeal.
Use entered the gaming industry in 1986 with the Family Computer-exclusive title “Hottarman's Underground Adventure.” At that time, the industry was still in its infancy, with the Famicom and Game Boy only recently hitting the market, and Use bravely ventured into this new arena. In 1987, they released a string of titles such as “Batsu & Terry: The Ironman Race in the Lost World,” gradually making a name for themselves among game fans.
By the end of 1990, after releasing “Navy Blue '90,” Use began focusing on outsourced development. However, nearly a decade later, in 1999, Use made a bold decision: they rebranded as “Xuse” and started anew as an adult game maker. The name “Xuse” carries the meanings of both “X-rated (adult)” and “Use.” From this point, they began to focus primarily on the adult game industry, establishing a unique identity as Xuse.
While Xuse is prominent as an adult game maker, their works are also appreciated by general audiences. A prime example is “Eien no Aselia.” This title was ported to the PlayStation 2, allowing many players to enjoy it beyond just the adult market.Additionally, “Eien no Aselia” was adapted into a stage play by the 21st Century Fox Theater Company, broadening its appeal beyond the realm of games.
Xuse invested not only in their works but also in event production. In 2003, they surprised visitors at Chara Fes with a Japanese taiko drum performance.Furthermore, through internet radio shows like “Project Xuse” and “Go Thomas!”, they valued communication with fans. These activities showcase their commitment to entertainment beyond just being a game maker.
The former Use, and now Xuse, has always been a company unafraid of challenge and change. From the good old days of Famicom game development, they adapted to the adult game market with the times. Their commitment to providing new entertainment, rooted in their experience, continues to captivate many game fans.
Currently, Xuse stands out from other game makers with flashy events and innovative product launches. Some may feel nostalgic for the works from the Use era, while others seek excitement in Xuse's titles. This depth that allows enjoyment of both eras may be the company's greatest charm.
Xuse, with its lineup of masterpieces in the gaming industry and a history of unique activities, is a company whose future challenges we look forward to.
