In the year 2000, DRAGON QUEST VII was released on the PlayStation! Its catchphrase was ”People can become someone.”
Set in a world where only a single island exists as dry land, the protagonists (players) living on that island wander into ruins following a certain incident. They discover mysterious ”Stone Fragments,” and by collecting them, they travel to unknown lands in this classic royal-road RPG!
With a cast of unique characters, the joy of adventure expanded by job changes, and the massive addition of monster-related elements, the fun to be had is infinite!
Here are the featured elements added in this remake!
It is confirmed that there are new additions to the story!
Characters who could not fight alongside you at certain points in the 2000 version have been seen participating in battle in the PV!
Not only are character designs beautifully rendered on the latest hardware, but it seems there are also additional elements in the main story for a more immersive experience, but......?
Arena has been added!
While the 2000 version featured side activities like the Casino and Monster Park, these have been removed this time, and an ”Arena” facility appears in their place!
In the DLC content, it appears you can even battle popular bosses from previous titles, such as the Dragonlord, Malroth, and Zoma!
The slightly tedious job system is now easier to play!
In the 2000 version, to change into various jobs, you had to head to a dedicated facility no matter where you were in the world. Experience points also continued to be poured into only one job, going to waste once it was maxed out.
In the remake, however, you can hold multiple jobs simultaneously and freely distribute experience points. Furthermore, a specific item allows you to change jobs anywhere you like! Not only has the scope widened, but elements for greater comfort have also been added!
This year is the 40th anniversary!

The DRAGON QUEST series will celebrate its 40th anniversary on May 27, 2026! Honestly, I thought this feature-packed DRAGON QUEST VII would be released around that time...... but the fact that it is being released earlier might mean that a lot of super big news will be flowing in May during the 40th anniversary!
