Founded in 1981, it originally served as a representative for Apple Computers in the United States. The company name was derived from the word “Millennium Falcon,” featured in “Star Wars.”

It is a long-established game company that entered the game software development business during Japan's era of 8-bit computer software development, boasting a long history. A distinctive feature was its focus on PC games, maintaining a software lineup that didn’t overly lean towards the bishojo games, which were mainstream in PC gaming.

The company is also renowned for its music, having launched its own label and released numerous game soundtracks. In June 2009, it announced the “Falcom Music Free Declaration,” making nearly 4,000 songs freely available within the terms of use.
