2026-09-27
You were supposed to jump into an adventure enthusiastically thinking “I'm going to become a hero!”, but before you know it, you are baking bread and operating the cash register. Starting from such an unexpected development is Aeruta. The protagonist of this work is Chaya, a girl with impressive fox ears. She lives in a world with a history where heroes once saved a world wrapped in calamity using the power of the “Arta Crystal.” Chaya, who admires legendary heroes, was also challenging missions of the Adventurer's Guild as if chasing after their backs. However, during a mission, by an unexpected turn of events, she breaks the bakery's oven. You can't help but laugh thinking “Is the first step to becoming a hero helping out at a bakery?”, but what is broken must be fixed. Thus, Chaya continues her adventure while working at the bakery, and eventually discovers a fragment of the “Arta Crystal.” Not ending with just a laid-back bakery life, she gets dragged into a major turmoil.

Speaking of the fun of Aeruta, what warrants attention first is likely the fusion of two gameplay elements that at first glance seem unlikely to connect: “Action RPG” and “Bakery Management.” In dungeons, you operate Chaya and advance deeper while fighting monsters appearing one after another. If you drop your guard thinking it's cute 2D pixel art, you might be chased around mercilessly by enemy attacks. Utilizing skills and drives, it is necessary to firmly stay conscious of not only attacking but also dodging. Furthermore, because formidable bosses wait in the deepest parts, it is not a simple fight where “anyway if you hit, you win.” And there is another important purpose to the adventure: gathering ingredients necessary for breadmaking. The gap of “The purpose of this fierce fight was bread ingredients!” is truly enjoyable, with combat against monsters and exploration connecting naturally to the subsequent shop building.
After finishing a life-risking adventure, finally a break... does not happen. Next is the time to bake bread using the gathered ingredients and manage the shop. What's more, work is abundant with not only breadmaking, but stocking products, cash register customer service, inside shop cleaning, and more. Becoming busy enough to think “Isn't it busier than the dungeons?” is also a fun unique to this work. There are various types of bread that can be made, and in the flow where materials gathered by yourself line up in storefronts as products and those sell to become profit, there is a unique sense of achievement. Furthermore, money earned from selling bread can be used for Chaya's skills and shop upgrades. In other words, a cycle of “Adventure -> Obtain materials -> Make bread -> Sell and earn -> Grow further” is born, forming a mechanism where neither combat nor management is a mere extra, but supporting each other.
As you advance the story, reliable companions supporting Chaya's activities also appear. Around a girl who was aiming to be a hero alone, companions gather little by little, enriching not only adventures but life at the bakery and on the island. This change is also a point making you want to keep playing Aeruta. While holding a story surrounding grand hero legends and the Arta Crystal, beside it she bakes bread, cleans, and works busily serving customers. This sense of distance between “world-shaking adventure” and “familiar bakery daily life” is exquisite, creating an approachability that doesn't become purely serious. Compatibility with the cute worldview drawn in pixel art is good too, and just gazing at Chaya and her friends' lives naturally evokes affection.
“Aeruta” is a single title catching the interest of people who want to enjoy exhilarating action, as well as people who like simulations steadily developing shops. Being able to hold different goals at each time, such as “Today let's conquer dungeons” or “Next time I want to grow the bakery more,” makes it hard to get the feeling of only the same gameplay continuing endlessly, which is likely an attraction too. The setting where a fox-eared girl dreaming of being a hero advances into a grand adventure involving the world while working at a bakery is unique. Gripping a sword to challenge monsters, returning embracing obtained ingredients, and next delivering delicious bread across the island. “Hero and bakery, why combine these two?”—If you thought that, you might already have one foot stepped into the mysterious charm of this work.
